#ROMANCEATHON DAY 4 REVIEW: MEET CUTE BY HELENA HUNTING.
It’s already Day 4 of Romanceathon today’s challenge is to read a Romance released in 2019. So of course I choose meet cute by Helena Hunting. I had a lot of high expectations of this book, because everyone seems to love it. I definitely loved this book, it’s very grown up and real. This book would definitely be on my summer tbr if I hadn’t read it already.
What is it about?
Have you ever been so embarrassed that you wanna sink in a hole in the ground? Well.. that happens to Kailyn. On her first day of law school Kailyn quite literally ran into the actor she crushed on as a teenager, ending with him falling on top of her. If that’s not embarrassing enough she discovers that the Daxton Hughes is also a student in her class. Her embarrassment over their meet-cute quickly turned into a friendship she never expected. But just like she never expected to be friends with him, she never saw is betrayal coming either....
fast forward eight years, Kailyn is a successful lawyer how is working really hard to become partner before 30. But when unexpected Dax is in HER office asking for legal advice. She can’t help her feeling sorry for him, despite her anger. Dax just lost his parents and became a solo guardian to his thirteen-year old sister. But when kailyn’s boss gets wind of her new celebrity client, there’s even more at stake than just Dax’s custody issues. If Kailyn gets Dax to work at their firm, she’ll be promoted to partner.
The more time she spends with Dax and his little sister, the more she starts to feel like a family, and the more she realises the chemistry they had all those years ago is as fresh as ever. but will Kailyn be able to forgive him for the mistakes of the past? Or will one betrayal lead to another on?
What are my thoughts?
this story is such a emotional rollercoaster form start to finish. When you look at the cover you expect some cute rom-com story that is just to sweet and sappy to bare, but its so much more than that. It once again proves to never judge a book by its cover.
in a weird way it reminded me a lot of suits. I thinks because they both lawyers and there is a lot of lawyer talk. What I like so much about this story is that it’s not only about Kailyn helping Dax to get custody of his sister, or their romance. But about working hard and to never give up even if it gets hard.
There where a lot of amazing moments and so.. so.. so.. much humor, it was hard not to laugh out loud sometimes. I loved that from the start on we learn about Dax’s and Kailyn’s history. Their meet-cute was a great introduction to the story. There was great banter and playfulness. watching their connection grow in the middle of a very tense situation, and seeing their chemistry was just so heartwarming.
How many stars?
I give this book 5/5 stars.
This book is definitely a page turner, once you start you can’t stop.
